Complex Multidisciplinary Rehabilitation After War‑Induced Mandibular Trauma

A clinical case created in ImplaStation by Dr.Maxym Prytula (Ukraine)

Complex multidisciplinary post-fibula rehabilitation following war-induced mandibular trauma, 3 year follow-up.

Post-reconstruction full-arch rehabilitations require a complex approach from both the prosthetic, surgical and hygienic perspective in order to ensure an optimal level of function, everyday comfort and longevity.

Patient was referred following a successfully reconstructed mandible via fibula-graft due to an obtained defect during war-trauma.

Following successful fibula integration it was determined that the graft was positioned in a way that conflicted with the TMJ pathway and caused a skeletal-level deviation, unable to be treated by conventional means.

Over several years a state of compensatory movement of the mandible was achieved which was comfortable enough for the patient to perform everyday function.

Due to the lack of soft tissues, despite several mucogingival surgeries all relapsing , for the final prosthesis a hybrid non-removable restoration with a dedicated hygienic zone was considered as an optimal solution.

Big thanks to my good friend Dr.Paul Ilchenko for performing a tremendous effort during this complex rehabilitation with the patients TMJ, an endeavour truly worth the highest praise.
